MARIA GRISHKINA, LMHC (MH23630)

Я говорю на русском языке.

Maria is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH23630). Thank you for visiting my page. I encourage you to read on to find out more about me and how I may help you.

I have been working in mental health care since 2003 as a psychiatrist and since 2008 as a psychotherapist. I use evidence-based methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy (ST). I find the work inspiring and I strive to provide a safe and compassionate place for clients 18+ to embrace change.

Both CBT and ST have been proven effective and are backed by significant scientific evidence. I like the structured and goal-oriented nature of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,  but I equally enjoy the humanistic, person-centered nature of Schema Therapy. Schema Therapy is an innovative therapy for treating a wide range of emotional problems, such as relationship issues, chronic depression, eating disorders, anxiety, and personality disorders. The therapy reveals our “stuck patterns” in terms of schemas or modes that reflect how we view ourselves, our relationships, and our lives more broadly. I was originally drawn to the model because it allows for an emotionally healing experience, has a clear, transparent structure, and provides effective strategies for deep and sustained change. Schema Therapy has a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, using limited reparenting as an antidote to unmet needs from childhood.

In my practice, I treat adults 18 years and older individually. I am flexible and can adapt to your needs, whether long- or short-term therapy will be most suitable. I specialize in treating Anxiety symptoms, including panic attacks, social anxiety, agoraphobia etc.), Mood symptoms (depression, complex grief), Personality problems such as Borderline personality disorder, Avoidant -Dependent or Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.

Entering into therapy means daring to be vulnerable and to expose yourself. Therefore, I find it very important that you feel comfortable and safe with me. As a therapist I try to adjust my pace of therapy to you. My goal is to create a safe space for you to open up, reflect, and to take positive action towards change. I do not believe in the rigid application of protocols, but rather, together with you, to develop a customized therapeutic approach. My personal style is transparent, calm, and empathetic, with an open and inquiring mind. I believe in getting to know my clients in an authentic way, so that I can provide compassionate and individualized care. I find humor essential, and I am decisive when necessary.

We all must be true to ourselves in order to feel fulfilled and happy, and that starts with knowing ourselves. If we allow others to influence our thoughts and actions, we can lose sight of our core values. My goal is to help you rediscover your true self and align your thoughts and actions with your core values, leading to growth and fulfillment.

I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (IMH22383). I was born in Russia and moved to the United States (Florida) in 2018. I earned my M.D. and PhD in Psychiatry in Russia. I earned my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2021 from Nova Southeastern University.

I am a member of American Counseling Association and International Society of Schema Therapy. I’m also a certified Advanced Schema Therapist within International Society of Schema Therapy (ID:1146-A).

I speak English and Russian.
